The best sushi in Monrovia

Take out only as of 12/22/20 order usually takes within 25-30 minutes around 4pm

Due to COVID19 I had to do a pick up and it was easy to order. Parking can be tricky so beware and picked up my order and customer service was great. I ordered the salmon temp roll and it came with 5 big round pieces and two fried pieces of salmon I believe for a reasonable price. Food was delicious and hopefully get to dine in and try their other foods.

My family and I have been coming here for years. We love it! Good service. Good food. I took away 1 star because their ice water doesn't taste good. Since covid 19, we just order online for pickup. They've gotten our order correct every time so far. Parking can be tricky.

And to be honest, the sushi here is really too expensive. A meal is better than two meals in another restaurant. The rice is as hard as a stone. The rice in other restaurants is loose and soft and never comes againOk

This is an update: Since this is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Monrovia downtown, I am glad that they stay open with outdoor seatings during COVID-19. Restaurant takes safety measures against the virus with all staff wearing masks and face shields. They also disinfect the tables between customers. I went to have lunch here today at their outdoor venue. My favorite lunch menu was still available. Food came out very fast. I noticed that my chicken teriyaki was very tender and the portion was huge. I ended up only finishing half and took the other half home for dinner. Although the weather was hot, but the breeze made the outdoor dining experience very pleasant. So come out and dine out door to support our favorite local restaurants. End of the update Popular sushi restaurant In old town Monrovia. My friend has told us about this place awhile back and we have not had a chance to try it out yet. Today, we came for lunch and this place is packed. For those of you who are looking for a quick lunch, bento combos are the best. You have a choice of three items to choose from. I chose teriyaki chicken with California roll while my wife ordered the teriyaki salmon ( +1 dollar) and spice tuna roll. The lunches came out very quickly and the service was good and fast even though the restaurant seemed to be short handed and extremely busy. The chicken and salmon bento are very authentically Japanese and they do taste fantastic. I looked at their happy hour and dinner menus and there are extensive and full of many varieties of Japanese foods that I like. Happy hours starts at 3 in the afternoon. We definitely will come for their happy hour next time. The prices for happy hours are very attractive. Parking is bit of a problem during lunch time. We had to walk 10 minutes to the restaurant from where parked.

This place is usually good. Today was not one of those days. Bought over 200 Dollars of sushi to go, I asked for extra ginger and wasabi and this is what they gave me. I asked for more and they said that if I wanted more I would have to buy it, which I did, you can't have sushi without ginger and wasabi. I asked that usually they give it to us when we eat in the restaurant and they said that different you are eating here. I might have to look for a different place if they are going to be so stingy with the ginger.

Impressed. I usually don't go into sashimi territory when eating at a sushi place. I just go for rolls that have cooked fish, or at most, Spicy Tuna. This place made me realize that all the other places I've gone to try sashimi don't compare, quality-wise, to this place. Arrived around 6:30PM and got seated right away. They got rid of physical menus to prevent the virus, so you would have to scan the QR code on the table for the menu. Just worried for the older generation who may not have phones and such. ORDERS: Spicy Garlic Edamame: Good garlic flavor with a kick Spider Roll: Surprisingly not my favorite here, which I thought I would like the most since it's all cooked and I usually get this. The soft shell crab inside the actually roll was small, but they provide a leg on the side. Yellowtail Carpaccio: This was the first non-cooked thing I had here, and it actually tasted fine to me. There was no fishiness to it and the ponzu and truffle oil weren't overpowering. After this dish, I felt like it was easier to try the other non-cooked dishes. Double Albacore Roll: The first bite had me a bit shook as the albacore wasn't fishy nor did it have a weird texture. The fried onions were the extra garnish we didn't know we needed as it made the whole roll complete. Ended up ordering two of these as it was definitely a favorite throughout the group. Large Sashimi (30 pieces): This had 6 different sashimis - salmon, tuna, mackerel, octopus, albacore, and I think yellowtail. I only got to try 4/6, but the ones I did try actually blew me away with how I could handle it without making a weird face. Out of the ones I did try - salmon, tuna, mackerel, and albacore - my favorite was the mackerel and my least was the salmon. Baked Scallop Roll: When this came to the table, everyone seemed a bit confused by it. We thought it would come with bigger pieces of scallop and on each roll. It ended up being really small scallops kind of placed all over. Not a big fan of it. Spicy Tuna: It was good. Tasted like most Spicy Tunas to me. Shishito Peppers: This was sauteed with sake soy sauce. I didn't really care for this, but it seemed liked by everyone else. In the end, I'm glad I found this place on Yelp and chose to come here instead of AYCE. It is on the pricier side, but you pay for the quality. The server was really nice and cool too. He ended up taking a shot of sake with us and hooked it up with two extra bottles of Kirin when we thought they overcharged us. Final Verdict - definitely coming back.

It's been a while since I've been back here, since I no longer work in the area. But I really missed Japanese food during the lockdown, so decided to squeeze in a to go order while I was working from home. I'm so glad I did! The food was delicious, just as I remembered. I decided on the three item bento box with salmon teriyaki, salmon roll and mixed tempura. The portions provided were large and an excellent value. And the tempura was still crunchy after the 20 min. drive home. I'll definitely be doing this again! Some advice: if you don't plan on eating outside (they have limited sidewalk dining) be sure to order your food ahead of time.

We really enjoyed ordering Sushi from here before we could go in person. When we were allowed to dine-in we took the opportunity and loved it even more!

Food was great until I found a decent sized bone in the albacore. I've heard many great things about the place maybe I was just unlucky. I've been to many sushi spots and ate tons of sushi and never once got a bone not really sure I know how to feel about it. The main waitress was rude and was throwing menus around and dropping them on the floor. Very unprofessional.

I visit this restaurant quite often! This is my favorite restaurant to eat. I visit this spot frequently. The meals are very good, the staff is courteous and the rates are decent. I like going in this spot over a nice dinner.
